A playful and highly expressive chair and table set by Ludo Huys, reflecting the designer’s distinctive, postmodern approach to furniture as functional sculpture. Crafted in painted fibreglass, the chair is formed as a stylised female figure, with simplified geometric features and a vivid, hand-painted surface that gives it an almost narrative quality.
The composition is bold and graphic, with strong blocks of colour—reds, yellows, blues, and greens—combined with outlined facial details and decorative motifs. The chair’s backrest becomes the figure’s head and torso, while the arms and seat are integrated into the overall sculptural form. The accompanying table continues this visual language, with a circular top painted in a similarly abstract, figurative manner and supported by a faceted base.
Both pieces show intentional surface wear and texture, enhancing their hand-crafted character. Created in the late 20th century, the set embodies Huys’ interest in blurring the boundaries between art and design, resulting in furniture that functions as both a practical object and a striking visual statement.
